What is keyword research?

To put it simply, keywords research refers to finding a set of keywords that have:

  1. A high search volume
  2. Low competition

A High Search Volume is important because you will want many people to search the keywords that you pick, so more visitors will view your site.

Low Competition will make it easier for you to rank on the first page on Google, Bing or Amazon.

When should I do keyword research?

If you’re working on your online business, you should always be ready to do keyword research.

For affiliate marketing, keyword research is the key to your success. For example, if you write a post about camera reviews, you will want to find a set of keywords that not only relate to cameras, but also have a high search volume and low competition. You will want lots of camera lovers to type that keyword in Google search and see your post on the first page.

For drop shipping online store, it is pretty much the same thing. If you’re selling silicone spatulas, you probably would want to rank on the first page on Google for “silicone spatulas.” Nevertheless, the competition may be too high. Then you may try to rank for, for example, “the best silicone spatula for your kitchen”

For FBA Amazon Sellers, keyword research will help you be on the first page on Amazon.
